A Kick in the Head

We’ll admit it: We’re a little bitter about the fact that Philadelphia beat out St. Louis to become the home of the 16th Major League Soccer team. We are, after all, the soccer capital of the country, and it’s not as if Jeff Cooper, the Collinsville attorney who was spearheading the campaign to land the expansion spot, didn’t bend over backward to meet all of the league’s demands. So yeah, we’re a little miffed.

But you know what, Philly? You can have your new soccer team. Based on your luck with most sports, you won’t do much with it anyway.

Soccer
  • Philly Major Indoor Soccer League’s Fever lasted three seasons; all-time winning percentage of .407*

  • STL MISL’s Steamers played for a total of 12 seasons; all-time winning percentage of .494
Football
  • Philly Eagles have never won a Super Bowl; have an all-time winning percentage of .466

  • STL Cardinals and Rams have combined for one Super Bowl win; have an all-time winning percentage of .517
Baseball
  • Philly Phillies were the first franchise to lose 10,000 games; Cards handed them that loss

  • STL Cardinals have 10 World Championships; have an all-time win-loss record of 1,121–842 against the Phillies

*We’re leaving out the MISL’s current Philadelphia KiXX. If anything, it’s an argument against Philly’s getting a soccer team—why should they get a second one
